MB COAD

The Morongo Basin COAD is a collaborative network, in cooperation with the High Desert Emergency Action Alliance, of diverse organizations and community members committed to enhancing disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts in the Morongo Basin communities. By working together, we aim to strengthen the resilience of our region and ensure the well-being of our residents during times of crisis.

What is a COAD?

A Community Organizations Active in Disaster, or COAD, is a local network that brings together nonprofits, government agencies, faith-based organizations, businesses, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to effectively address the challenges posed by disasters. COADs serve as a vital bridge between emergency management agencies and the community, facilitating coordinated and efficient responses in times of need.

Regional COADs work within the SBC COAD structure at the local level. Our groups of local community organizations work together during a disaster to provide coordination of services to ensure that unmet needs are addressed, provide financial assistance and supplies, and to share knowledge and resources with local residents during a disaster.

“Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless.”

Benefits of Morongo Basin COAD

The Morongo Basin COAD offers numerous benefits to the communities it serves. Here are some key advantages:

  1. Enhanced Preparedness: Through collaborative planning and sharing of resources, the COAD helps individuals and organizations in the Morongo Basin to be better prepared for emergencies and disasters. This includes developing comprehensive response plans, conducting training sessions, and promoting public awareness campaigns.

  2. Coordinated Response: In the event of a disaster, the COAD facilitates a coordinated response by mobilizing and deploying resources efficiently. By leveraging the strengths and expertise of various organizations, we can provide immediate assistance and support to affected individuals and communities.

  3. Community Support: The COAD fosters a sense of community and togetherness during challenging times. It establishes a platform for communication, networking, and collaboration among organizations, allowing us to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices to strengthen our collective response capabilities.

  4. Resource Sharing: The COAD encourages resource sharing among its members. This includes sharing supplies, equipment, personnel, and other necessary resources to address the immediate needs of disaster-affected areas. By pooling our resources, we can maximize their impact and reach.

  5. Long-term Recovery: Beyond immediate response efforts, the COAD focuses on long-term recovery and rebuilding strategies. We work closely with community members, government agencies, and other partners to support the recovery process, restore essential services, and rebuild the affected areas stronger and more resilient than before.
