Morongo Basin Fire Safe Council
Our Fire Safe Council will be used as a forum to share information, solve problems, and link related programs in ways that can save money and time. The public safety issues we discuss will even extend beyond fire safety, to earthquake preparedness, emergency medical response, etc.
As we strategize with government and private partners we will soon outline the MBFSC mission and invite the public to participate from the MB Communites of:
Homestead Valley
Pioneertown
Morongo Valley
Yucca Valley
Joshua Tree
Twentynine Palms
Wonder Valley
High Desert Emergency Action Alliance (FSC)
The purpose of HDEAA is to bring together public and private organizations to discuss safety in our communities in real-time. This community-based safety concept was derived out of the statewide Fire Safe Council whose goal is to preserve California’s natural and manmade resources by mobilizing all Californians to make their homes, neighborhoods, and communities fire safe. There are approximately 150 local councils throughout the state albeit all but missing from the greater High Desert area – we’re here to change that! We have already aligned with our neighboring ‘Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council’ to leverage a CalFire grant that will enable HDEAA to travel through the HD: Morongo Basin to Lake Havasu, Needles to Barstow (and beyond) to educate communities on creating their own Fire Safe Councils, Firewise Communities or becoming active members of HDEAA.

WOULD YOUR COMMUNITY LIKE TO ESTABLISH A FIRE SAFE COUNCIL?
The California Fire Safe Council was built to help create new Fire Safe Councils in California communities. We are working with current funding from State Farm Insurance Company, with other funders coming on board in early summer, to develop a new program to create many new local Fire Safe Councils.
The program’s aim is to establish new Fire Safe Councils; to help build the Council’s capacity to become a self-sufficient organization, able to plan and manage community wildfire preparedness projects, and able to acquire grant funding to accomplish their objectives.
We are especially interested in supporting vulnerable communities who normally do not have access to community organizing resources, or those communities within very high wildfire hazard severity zones, as defined by CAL FIRE. Social vulnerability factors including social isolation, poverty, language barriers, and other access and functional needs challenges.
